Guest Speaker - Guest Speaker: Cath Koutna

In Feb 2018 my world, and the plans I had made were derailed, when Cancer took me on the most unexpected detour.

I created Be and Become after I finished treatment in 2018 for Breast Cancer. The group is for women in Lincolnshire living with or beyond any type of cancer - born out of my passion to give women a safe place to come along to and just 'Be' themselves. Cancer does not take away your personality. It may alter parts of your identity, but it must not be allowed to strip away the essence of who you are. I also wanted the group to offer the dimension of enabling women to 'Become' a newer version of themselves. Someone's new friend, someone with new knowledge, someone with a different perspective on life. The group offers women a platform to connect, support, inspire and grow forward. In addition, born out of my passion for keeping physically fit during and post treatment, I have brought a new national community initiative to Lincoln called 5k your way. Along with Fiona Roche from Macmillan, we will be encouraging people within the cancer community (those being treated/ post treatment/family and friends and health care professionals) to come along and take part in the Lincoln park run on the last Saturday of every month. This is another support group with a difference. It is all about trying to bring people from this community together to help reduce social isolation and to help get people active.
